I presently work for a major car hauler with trips that go into the frozen north. Car hauling is primarily a daytime job. Trucks are parked at motels for the night and most places do not provide a place to plug in block heaters. It is not uncommon for car hauler drivers to run the engine all night. It is a waste of fuel but it is also a choice of burning 4 or 5 gallons of fuel at 2.50 a gallon versus a $150.00 to $200.00 service call to start a truck. New technology is the answer, but until the fines out way the cost of installation I doubt this fleet will put any teeth into a program to change the practice of idling.
