Years ago when you asked a maintenance guy about tires, he might possibly say, "well they're black and round". He might even go on and say they where impossible to keep balanced, so
why bother, and they sure did not last long enough.
Today it is different. Tires can be balanced and if maintenance personnel accept the challenge of keeping the proper amount of clean dry air in them, tires will last a lot longer than in
years past. Any maintenance manager worth his salt knows that mounted and rolling tires will have a negative affect on total maintenance cost if not monitored closely. He also
knows that tires may be the last bastion of hope for increasing fuel mileage with the present engine and drive train technology.
They're still black and round, but they can not be ignored. An aggressive tire maintenance program will have a positive effect on any fleet's budget.
