Know More Facts about the Unsafe Driving BASIC
The Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) Website now features the Unsafe Driving Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Category (BASIC) factsheet. This new factsheet is one in a series of seven that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) released on January 17, 2012 to better educate motor carriers, commercial motor vehicle drivers, and other industry stakeholders on CSA’s seven safety categories. Motor carriers and drivers can access this factsheet, as well as the other BASIC factsheets, on the Resources page.
This week FMCSA is highlighting the Unsafe Driving BASIC factsheet, which addresses the careless and dangerous operation of commercial motor vehicles by drivers, as outlined under Parts 392 and 397 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs). Motor carriers and drivers can refer to this factsheet for information about the types of documents associated with this BASIC they should keep, such as driver training certificates, and for information about how to proactively handle unsafe driving problems.

Maxwell Technologies Inks Agreement with Pana-Pacific to Distribute Its New Ultracapacitor-Based Engine Start Module for Trucks
Engine Start Module Available in all OEM After-Market Truck Dealerships in United States, Canada and Mexico
Maxwell Technologies, Inc. announced it has entered into a one-year agreement with Pana-Pacific, a preferred integrator and engineering partner in the commercial vehicle market, to distribute Maxwell’s new ultracapacitor-based Engine Start Module (ESM) in the United States, Canada and Mexico. As a result of the agreement, the ESM is now available through all original equipment manufacturer (OEM) after-market truck dealerships, including Freightliner, International, Kenworth, Mack Trucks, Peterbilt, Volvo and Western Star Trucks.
“Pana-Pacific has a long history and great reputation as an integrator in the commercial vehicle market and we’re very pleased to be working with them to make our new Engine Start Module widely available to owner operators and fleets,” said Van Andrews, Maxwell’s senior vice president, sales and marketing. “Through the agreement, buyers are now able to walk into any heavy-duty truck dealership in the U.S., Canada or Mexico and get the Engine Start Module right off the shelf or order it.”
Maxwell developed the ESM incorporating its patented ultracapacitor technology in consultation with heavy truck manufacturers and fleet operators to avoid vehicle starting problems in cold weather or when batteries are drained by repetitive starting or climate control and other driver comfort functions. The ESM is designed for light, medium and heavy duty applications in Class 4 to 8 trucks. More information on the ESM may be accessed via the following link: http://www.maxwell.com/ESM

Meritor’s “Real Deal” Helps Warehouse Distributors Improve Profitability
The Meritor Inc. “Real Deal” suite of services has received considerable acceptance by Warehouse Distributor (WD) authorized parts outlets. More than 75 percent of parts orders are placed electronically and more than 300 parts outlet locations – across the United States and Canada – are now relying on the Real Deal to help lower transaction costs, increase customer fill rates, improve profitability and enhance cash flow.
Designed to lower the operating costs of distributors, this unique services package is built around a host of critical factors: broad product portfolio, short lead times, flexible packaging capability, Vendor-Managed Inventory (VMI) and high fill rates; all of which are backed by a high level of technical service and customer care.
“This is a win-win arrangement to drive the lowest possible transaction costs for our customers while improving fill-rates to the fleets they service. In fact, participation in our VMI program is up more than 42 percent from last year and expecting a similar increase this year,” said Joe Mejaly, president, Aftermarket & Trailer, Meritor, in his remarks to industry media at the 2012 Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week.
